To coincide with the “Christofle, Une brillante histoire” exhibition, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris has edited a catalog in which 13 thematic essays, divided into four chapters, trace the extraordinary destiny of the Maison Christofle since 1830.
The rich iconography of the exhibition catalog invites us to discover pieces each more remarkable than the last. In doing so, it plunges us into the splendor of great restaurants and palaces like the Ritz, legendary trains, liners and planes like the Orient Express, the Normandie and the Concorde, as well as places of political power, all equipped by Christofle, ambassador, in France and abroad, of the art of living and luxury à la française.

VASE CHUTE DE GLYCINES
The Historic Collections celebrate the audacity
of the Maison’s archives through a contemporary
reinterpretation of the Chute de Glycines vase,
originally created in 1917 and inspired by the
art of dinanderie.
Entirely handcrafted in the Haute Orfèvrerie
workshops in Normandy, this spectacular and
generously sized vase combines a matte brushed
finish on its body with a mirror-polished motif
that shines with radiant reflections. A duality of
textures that enhances the Art Nouveau pattern.
A unique silverwork that employs the techniques
of spinning, chasing, and polishing
Christofle buys the patents for silver plating and gilding by electrolysis which gave birth to silver metal in France. He becomes a goldsmith.
