Christofle presents « Duel des Thés », an exceptional and astonishing chess set created in its French Haute Orfèvrerie workshops, combining the best of its know-how with the emblematic lines of two of its Art Nouveau and Art Deco tea sets.

This is the spirit in which Christofle imagined "Le Duel des Thés", a first chess set of its kind, combining the excellence of its Haute Orfèvrerie workshops and two legendary collections from the Maison born in Paris in 1830, with the pioneering spirit that has marked each of its creations ever since.
With the elegance and distinction that have been its hallmarks since it was founded by Charles Christofle, symbolized for over a century by its hallmark: the silhouette of a chess piece, a knight whose origins remain brilliantly... mysterious.

The Chess Set
All the expertise of Christofle's workshops comes together to create these 32 pieces in mirror-polished sterling silver, and the vermeil crowns adorning the two Queens and the two Kings.
Placed on a pad, they compete on an equally exceptional playground. Christofle entrusted cabinet-maker Jean-Brieuc Chevalier from Angers with the creation of the wooden top clad in swamp oak, a rare species resulting from a thousand-year-old fossilization process, which gives it its charcoal-like color.
It took over 100 hours of surgically precise work to affix each of the 32 sterling silver plates one by one, ensuring a perfectly flat surface. The silver belt, also affixed by hand, bears the sterling silver title mark (Minerva's head), the Christofle's Master Hallmark, the year of production and the number of this set, offered, on request, in a limited edition of eight.
