These Louis XIV Coquille knife-holders are an elegant model created by Christofle in 1925, probably to complement the Louis XIV Coquille Berain flatware set created in 1921. Knife-holders first appeared in the 19th century, and gradually came into general use for family dinners when cutlery was not changed between courses.
