This butter and jam dish, decorated with laurel and oak motifs, appeared in the Gallia catalog between approximately 1909 and 1926. With its sinuous, elegant lines and nature-inspired decoration, this piece embodies the aesthetic of Art Nouveau, an artistic movement that flourished in France at the turn of the 20th century.

Having become famous, Maison Christofle was solicited by foreign sovereigns such as Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, the Tsar of Russia, Germany of the Kaiser, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Sultan Abdulaziz of the Ottoman Empire.
